How it works

Find your weak spots. Fix them. Stop running out of time.

  1. 1

    Take a timed test.

    50 questions, 15 minutes, no pause and no going back. The first time it feels like test day shouldn’t be test day.

  2. 2

    Read your debrief.

    Your coach goes through your answers and tells you which question types cost you points and which cost you time.

  3. 3

    Drill what’s weak.

    Short timed drills on the types you miss, with the fast method for each. A wrong answer costs nothing, so you also learn when to guess and move on.

Stuck on why? Ask your coach.

Ask about any question you missed. The coach already has the question and your answer, finds the step that went wrong, and gives you a rule you can use in 18 seconds.

If–then reasoningMissed in a drill

Assume the first two statements are true. Is the final statement True, False, or Uncertain based on the information provided?

  1. Mark did not wear a uniform.
  2. All of the waiters at the restaurant wore a uniform.
  3. Mark was a waiter at the restaurant.
TrueFalsecorrectUncertainyour answer
Coach chatAdapted from a real conversation

I picked Uncertain. The rule is A -> B (waiter -> uniform), and we know !B. Is A true? Isn’t that uncertain?

No, that one is False. This is modus tollens.

If every waiter wore a uniform and Mark didn’t, Mark can’t be a waiter.

If A were true, the arrow would force B to be true. But you know B is false. So A cannot be true, and the claim “Mark was a waiter” is False.

Run the Uncertain test

  • A true, B false: breaks A -> B. Not possible.
  • A false, B false: A -> B still holds. Possible.

Only one version works, so the answer is forced: False.

Okay. So if we’re told B is true, is A uncertain? Other things could make B true?

Yes, Uncertain. Your reason is exactly right: A is one way to get B, but not necessarily the only way. Concluding A would be affirming the consequent, which is invalid.

“Is B true?” is still True. You were told it, so it is still known.

And if we’re told !A, B is uncertain too?

Yes, Uncertain. A is not the only possible cause of B, so A being false tells you nothing about B. Concluding !B would be denying the antecedent.

Can you give me the rules in the ! notation, all the permutations?

Rule: A -> B, plus one fact

Each row is one fact you are told. The columns show what that makes each claim.

ToldA!AB!BRule
ATrueFalseTrueFalsemodus ponens
!BFalseTrueFalseTruemodus tollens
BUncertainUncertainTrueFalseaffirming the consequent (invalid to conclude A)
!AFalseTrueUncertainUncertaindenying the antecedent (invalid to conclude !B)

Bold cells are the ones the test actually asks about: the letter you were not told.

Short form

  • A -> B, A ⊢ B
  • A -> B, !B ⊢ !A
  • A -> B, B ⊢ nothing about A
  • A -> B, !A ⊢ nothing about B

Related statements

StatementSame meaning as A -> B?
!B -> !A (contrapositive)Yes, always
B -> A (converse)No
!A -> !B (inverse)No

The converse and inverse are the two traps in rows 3 and 4 of the first table. If you catch yourself using either, the answer is Uncertain.

Memory hook

Forward from a true front (A gives B). Backward from a false back (!B gives !A). Anything else: the other letter is Uncertain. The letter you were told is always still known.

Questions

Before you start.

Is this like the real CCAT?

Practice the format: 50 questions in 15 minutes across math, verbal, logic and spatial reasoning, with no going back. Build recognition of the question types, learn the fast methods, and get used to deciding when to move on.

Are you affiliated with Criteria Corp?

No. Cognitive Cat Prep is an independent practice tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Criteria Corp. CCAT is a trademark of its owner.

What do I get for free?

One practice session, either a full 50-question timed test or one drill of up to 50 questions, plus an AI debrief of that session when you finish. No card needed. You have 5 days from signup to use it. The sample questions on this page do not count against it.

What does paid access include? Will I be charged again?

One calendar month of everything: unlimited tests and drills, debriefs, coaching, coach chat and voice drills. It is a single payment through Stripe. It does not renew, so there is nothing to cancel.

Is it worth paying for a test I’ll take once?

Employers use the CCAT to decide who moves forward, so one sitting can carry a lot of weight. You don’t have to guess whether practice helps you: take the free session, read your debrief, and pay only if you want more.

My test is in a few days. Is that enough time?

Yes. Take a full test today to see where you stand. Then drill your two or three weakest question types, and take another full test the day before. Your free session covers the first test. The drills and the second test need the paid month.

What is a good score?

The average is about 24 out of 50. Employers set their own cutoffs and they vary by role, so ask your recruiter what yours is if you can. How CCAT scores work.

How much can I improve?

We can’t promise a score, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What practice changes is how well you know the question types and how you spend your 15 minutes. Pacing is a skill you can train.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are final, which is why the first session is free and needs no card. Try it before you pay. If a charge looks wrong or you can’t get into your account, email support@cognitivecatprep.com.

Is the coach a real person?

No. It is an AI coach that reads your answers and timing and explains what went wrong. It is there the moment you finish.
